Carrie Miracle-Jordan and Marilyn McCoy drove nearly 1,000 miles from Sierra Vista, Ariz., to Auburn, Calif., last week. Jordan planned to ride Stealawin, McCoy’s 10-year-old Arabian gelding, in the 100-mile Tevis Cup endurance race.
However, when the women arrived, they found a race site prepared but unpopulated–the race had been called off due to compromised air quality from area wildfires while the women were en route.

After hauling 1,000 miles, Arabian gelding Stealawin discovers Tevis is canceled. He has completed two previous Tevis races.
Were the two women disappointed?
“We do a lot of horse activities for adventures,” Jordan said. “This was an adventure.”
