Veterinarians at the Palm Beach Equine Clinic, headquartered in Wellington, Fla., have formed a strategic partnership with the Katy Equine Clinic in Katy, Texas. Lone Star State residents now will have access to state of the art resources, “including 19 of the world’s leading veterinarians, streamlined digital medical records, and advanced diagnostic and treatment options,” according to a press release from the clinic.
“These new resources augment the high quality service that the Katy Equine Clinic and its founder, James ‘Mike’ Heitmann, DVM, MS, have provided for more than 25 years.”
“Mike Heitmann has taken great care of his customers,” said Scott Swerdlin, DVM, president of the Palm Beach Equine Clinic. “Our goal is to continue to provide quality service, as well as expand diagnostic and treatment options.” Plans call for the Katy Equine Clinic to become a regional referral hospital specializing in surgery, lameness, podiatry and emergency and ICU care.
On the immediate horizon: the construction of a new surgical suite and the purchase of additional state of the art diagnostic tools. Already available: digital radiography, computed radiography, ultrasound, two surgical rooms, shock wave therapy, and the ability to create platelet-rich plasma for the treatment of wounds and ligament and tendon injuries. The number of staff veterinarians has already doubled, with Michelle Dumas, DVM, and Josh Zacharias, DVM, MS, joining Heitmann and Catherine Berry, DVM
