According to an article on www.chinaview.cn, today (Nov. 29) was the first time since 1949 that people on mainland China were allowed to bet on horse raaces … sort of.


A “testing event” with four races was run at Auhan, capital of the central Hubei Province in China. Spectators were allowed to place two free bets. If someone won, that person got scratch-off tickets from the local lottery.


This was a government-controlled trial run of “commercialized” horse racing, and no dates have been announced for live racing with betting
