Charles F. Reid, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVR, emeritus professor of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center and a founder of the American College of Veterinary Radiologists (ACVR), died Feb. 12.

Reid graduated from Cornell University’s School of Veterinary Medicine in 1956 and following military service, a master’s of science degree from Cornell, and a two-year research fellowship at the VA Hospital in New York, he joined the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine’s New Bolton Center in 1963.

In his 35 year-tenure at the large animal veterinary clinic, which treated such equine patients as the late 2006 Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) winner Barbaro, Reid chaired both the section of radiology and the department of clinical studies.

Reid trained radiologists who migrated to New Bolton from a wide geographical area and then departed to veterinary schools and practices both in the United States and abroad
