The Times of India reported that a 10-year-old boy was hospitalized Sunday (Sept. 2) after being dragged behind a horse near Jalandhar, in the state of Punjab, India.


While police claimed the boy’s leg was entangled in the rope as he was leading the horse, the boy’s parents alleged the boy was tied to the horse by the animal’s owner and subsequently dragged. The parents had earlier said they were guarding fields with the boy, and when a horse entered the fields and began grazing, the boy chased it away.


“This enraged the owners of the horse, belonging to the Gujjar community, living near the village,” reported the Times. “They tied the boy and a horse dragged him along the ground, the parents had alleged.”


The owners and the boy’s parents reached a compromise Monday, agreeing that the incident was accidental
