The Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation will have an open house Oct. 21 at the Saratoga Farms Equine Center in Saratoga Springs to showcase recently rescued ex-racehorses who are available for adoption.
The event will take place from 12 to 3 to p.m.
Information about Thoroughbred adoption, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation, which is based in Saratoga, and owning, riding, and caring for an ex-racehorse will be available. Representatives from the organization will be there to answer questions and give demonstrations. The event will also raise awareness about the number of sound and talented former racehorses available for adoption to good homes.
Most of the horses featured at this event were rescued from the slaughterhouse buyers at the New Holland Auction in Pennsylvania and rehabilitated by the TRF. They have all been started under saddle and the level of training and adoption rate vary accordingly. The range is between $600 and $2400. Volunteers from Thoroughbred racing, Anna Hollander, Trish McLaughlin, and Sharon Castro, among others, have been donating their time and services to care for and re-train the horses up for adoption
