Standardbred Canada has announced that today (Oct. 19) marks the deadline to reserve a seat in a program called “Horse Ownership 101,” which will commence on Saturday (Oct. 21) at Flamboro Downs near Hamilton, Ontario.

The workshop is designed to educate and inform prospective owners about the purchase, care, and training of Standardbreds, selecting a trainer, and other considerations of ownership.

“The morning will feature time with trainers in the Flamboro’s stable area , a blacksmith demonstration, and a tour of the paddock and race office,” said a report from the non-profit organization whose mandate is to supervise, record, store and distribute information on all registered Standardbreds and to promote harness racing in Canada and beyond. “A panel discussion including trainers, drivers, an accountant, representatives from Standardbred Canada, and the Ontario Racing Commission will be featured in the afternoon.”

Partipants will complete the day with lunch, live racing, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the track
