A colt by Hold That Tiger collapsed and died while working an eighth of a mile Monday at Fairplex Park in Southern California during the first under tack show for the Barretts March select sale of 2-year-olds in training. An autopsy will be performed, according to Jerry McMahon, the president and general manager of Barretts.

“There was no obvious injury,” McMahon said.

Consigned by Scanlon Training Center, agent, the colt was out of the 10-year-old unplaced End Sweep mare Wancha Back, who is a half-sister to grade II winner Isitingood and to multiple stakes producer Half Mast, who won five races and was stakes-placed. David Scanlon purchased the colt for $110,000 at the 2006 Keeneland September yearling sale.

“It’s an unfortunate part of our business,” said McMahon of the mishap. “It doesn’t happen very often. We’ve only had three of that type of accident in 18 years of conducting sales
