Not many people think of using their horses as painted billboards, and the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says you shouldn’t. At least, they say, not with regular paint, as it could harm the horse. According to a story on Scotsman.com, a horse was painted by a local professional face painter on May 4 to promote the Lunderton Equestrian Centre in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Following the painting, the Scottish SPCA warned that “copycat” paintings with real paint (this horse was painted with non-toxic, water-based children’s face paint) could occur and might harm horses.

A spokesman for the centre said they had asked their vet about safety before painting the horse, and the painter noted that she had done patch tests before painting the whole horse.
