Mansfield, Ohio’s News Journal reported that a Paint horse mare from central Ohio was euthanatized at The Ohio State University on Friday, July 8, due to injuries from a high-powered rifle shot sustained two days earlier at her owner’s ranch.

David Stillion was training the horse, named Comet, for his 11-year-old grandson.

“The assailant shot Comet at the Stillions’ Bunker Hill Road home, also wounding another horse on Hagerman Road and killing a cow on O’Possum Run Road,” noted the article. The mare was hit above the lungs and below the spinal cord.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to call the Richland County Sheriff’s Department at 419/524-2412
