Horses trained by David Bernstein must spend at least 24 hours in a pre-race detention barn because one of his horses tested positive for a high level of total carbon dioxide at Del Mar.
The detention period began Sept. 30 at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meet and runs through Oct. 29.
Officials with the consortium of racetracks and racing organizations still in charge of testing informed Bernstein that Truly a Judge, who finished third in the Sept. 5 Windy Sands Handicap at Del Mar, was found to have in excess of the established threshold of 37 millimoles of TCO2 per liter of plasma in a pre-race blood test.
After Oct. 29, his horses will be under increased surveillance in his own barn for 15 days. Bernstein became the seventh trainer cited for an alkalizing agent infraction since the consortium started testing horses in early 2005
