According to the Watertown Daily Times, a horse died in an accident at Ebert’s Greenhouse Village in Ixonia, Wisc., on Sunday afternoon as a fall festival hayride was about to begin.

Two horses from Gross Percherons were hitched to the wagon, which was being loaded as the mishap unfolded around 4:15 p.m.

Capt. Kevin Stapleton of the Jefferson Sheriff’s Department told the Daily Times, “The horses were unhitched from their posts and the driver was about to hop on the wagon for the ride. Everyone was on the wagon and there was a problem with the bridle on one of the horses and as attendant adjusted it, the horse was spooked and bolted.”

After crossing a parking lot and a lawn and crashing through a split-rail fence, the hitch went down an embankment and into a holding pond
