The first foal by dual classic winner Smarty Jones arrived shortly after midnight Jan. 10 at Arthur B. Hancock III’s Stone Farm near Paris, Ky. The newborn filly is the third foal from the winning Danzig mare Shoppingwithbetty, who is a daughter of grade I winner Buy the Firm.

“We’re very excited about the foal,” Hancock said. “A lot of work goes into bringing a foal into the world, and it’s nice to have a healthy filly.”

Shoppingwithbetty, who is a half-sister to graded winner Storm Broker and stakes winner Royal Arrow, is owned by Hancock and Tom Tatham of Oak Cliff Stables.

Smarty Jones, the 2004 3-year-old champion after winning the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I), stands at Robert N. Clay’s Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky. The son of Elusive Quality out of the Smile mare I’ll Get Along will stand once again for $100,000
