The McMinnville, Ore. News-Register reports online that a Carlton, Ore., man admitted last week to wrapping a chain around the legs of a down horse and dragging it with a tractor. The man has been sentenced to 200 hours of community service, four days of jail time, and payment of veterinary bills for his surviving horses that were in varying states of starvation, according to the article.

According to the News-Register, “Robert Louis Greiner said he didn’t know what else to do. ‘I was just trying to help the horse the best I knew how,’ he told Judge Cal Tichenor.
“Greiner, 64, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree animal neglect in exchange for dismissal of 10 counts of second-degree animal neglect,” continued the article. Tichenor ordered Greiner to “avoid contact with pets of any kind for five years, including horses
