Arkansas Derby winner Lawyer Ron has been given the okay to return to training at the barn of veteran Robert Holthus on Friday after surgery following a disappointing run in the Kentucky Derby.

Holthus said noted equine surgeon Larry Bramlage, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVS, who had removed a small chip from Lawyer Ron’s right hind leg in a procedure at Lexington, Ky.’s Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, gave the colt a thorough look on Tuesday.

“Dr. Bramlage examined him and said he’s ready to go back to training,” said Holthus. “We’ll try to have him ready to run sometime around the first of September.”

Lawyer Ron entered the Kentucky Derby as a major contender off his string of victories at Oaklawn Park that, along with the Arkansas Derby, included the Rebel and Southwest Stakes
