Six Quarter Horses are among the 13 new confirmed cases of West Nile virus (WNV) in the state’s equine population, the Kentucky Department of Agriculture announced Thursday. The total number of equine in Kentucky confirmed infected with WNV in 2002 now is 69.


Seven of the 13 announced Thursday are alive, four were euthanized, and two died. Two of the 13 have a history of vaccination for WNV, according to the Department.


Bourbon, McCracken and Union counties each had its first case, while others confirmed were in Barren, Callloway, Carlisle, Green, Henry, Marion, Nelson and Todd counties
