Eleven horses have died in racing or training at Saratoga Race Course, in Saratoga Springs, New York, since the start of the year, according to New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) records. Of those, nine have occurred since the 2017 meet opened on July 21.

Most recently, the 4-year-old filly Unbroken Chain was euthanized Aug. 6 after sustaining a musculoskeletal injury during a race. The incident is under investigation, NYSGC records show.

In 2016, NYSCG records show that 16 Thoroughbreds died at Saratoga; two of those were nonracing-related, while the other 14 occurred in racing or training.
