Thanksgiving is often the time of year when we stop and reflect about the people, things, and experiences we are truly thankful for. Here at The Horse and TheHorse.com, we are truly grateful for our readers who support our publication and trust us for their horse health information. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, we asked our readers what they were thankful for this year. Here are a few of their responses, along with some from TheHorse.com staff.
Horsey Friends to Help us Through the Good and Bad Times
Horse ownership isn’t always easy and having a horsey friend to help you through the tough times is a blessing. “I lost my beloved mare in August to a severe case of colic, which occurred in the night,” said reader Nancy Lee. “Naturally, I was heartbroken. A friend brought me together with one of her friends, who had a wonderful horse that she needed to move on. I’ll never forget my big, gorgeous girl, but this new guy is awesome. Something truly incredible came from something truly dreadful.”
Horse health research helped Dorado overcome laminitis last year and return to eventing this fall.

“I’m thankful for the veterinarians, researchers, and scientists that work continuously to advance equine medicine to keep our horses healthy,” said TheHorse.com News Editor Erica Larson. “After my now-20-year-old off-track Thoroughbred Dorado suffered a laminitic episode last year, an army of veterinarians and farriers used the knowledge they gained from research and their personal experience to help him recover and regain soundness. I’m also thankful for my long-time veterinarian for never giving up on the horse I paid $350 for and using his newly developed techniques to help get him return to competition this autumn. Dorado is healthy, happy, and in the best condition of his life as a result of veterinarians’ and researchers’ hard work, and for that I’m forever grateful and thankful
