The New York State Police (NYSP) are hoping the public can help identify those who spray-painted a horse and cut the animal's mane and tail.

Trooper Mark O'Donnell, NYSP Troop E public relations officer, said troopers responded to a call on July 21 from a Cayuga County horse owner reporting the incident.

“The horse was painted with a sideways letter 'R' using a dark spray paint,” O'Donnell said.

At the time of the incident, the horse was located in a barn on the same property where the owner's home is located, O'Donnell said
