“On the Slide,” a photograph published in the October 1999issue of The Horse magazine, taken by freelance equestrian photographer Charles Mann, was chosen as the best in equine sports by the American Horse Shows Association (ASHA), as part of the Seventh Annual AHSA Media Awards announced on Thursday, January 6. Established in 1993, the AHSA Media Awards formally salute journalists and media outlets that promote interest in equestrian sports.

“On the Slide” captures a champion reining horse and rider sliding to astopped position in a cloud of dust. The photograph is so crisp you canactually see the treads on the cowboy rider’s boots. Mann is a frequent photographic contributor to The Horse. “Charles Mann is one of the best equine photographers in the country, so I’m not surprised that he won yet another award for his work,” said Kimberly S.
