Moyer Receives Distinguished Alumni Award
William Moyer, DVM, head of the Department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University and member of The Horse’s Editorial Advisory Board recently was awarded a Distinguished Alumni award by Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo. Moyer was recognized Oct. 18 at a special luncheon and honored with a plaque placed on the Distinguished Alumni wall at the college.Nominee

William Moyer, DVM, head of the Department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University and member of The Horse’s Editorial Advisory Board recently was awarded a Distinguished Alumni award by Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colo. Moyer was recognized Oct. 18 at a special luncheon and honored with a plaque placed on the Distinguished Alumni wall at the college.Nominees for the award are selected based on exceptional career achievements in their chosen fields of endeavor and for a devotion to the betterment of society and their communities.
Moyer received his associate degree from Mesa Junior College in 1965, and his undergraduate (1966) and DVM degrees (1970) from Colorado State University. He went on to his internship and residency in Equine Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. After working in private practice for seven years, he returned to the University of Pennsylvania as an Assistant Professor of Sports Medicine. In 1993, he arrived at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine, as Professor of Equine Sports Medicine and Department Head. Since 1997, Moyer has been Co-Director of the Link Equine Research Endowment, a multi-million dollar endowment to enhance equine research
