Eight veterinary students have been selected to receive $2,500 scholarships from the American Live Stock Insurance Company (ALSIC) and the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP). The scholarships are presented annually to fourth-year veterinary students who plan to pursue a career in equine veterinary practice.
The scholarship recipients are: Lisa Baller, Colorado State University; Liberty Getman, University of Florida; James Joyce, University of California, Davis; Charlotte Anne Kin, Oklahoma State University; Kathryn Morton, Kansas State University; Tony A. Rocconi, Mississippi State University; Ryan Rutter, The Ohio State University; and Serena Williams, Iowa State University.
Veterinary students are nominated for the scholarships by their individual schools with supporting references from AAEP members and clinical instructors. In addition to academic excellence, recipients are evaluated on leadership ability and involvement in activities that benefit the health and welfare of the horse. Since the scholarships were first presented in 1989, ALSIC and the AAEP have awarded nearly $160,000 in financial assistance to veterinary students
