Rhode Island’s Department of Environmental Management has announced two crows have tested positive for West Nile Virus. The crows were collected from Charlestown and Warwick last week and are the first to test positive in Rhode Island this year. More than a dozen birds have tested positive in other Northeast states this year to date. Under the state’s mosquito protocol, additional mosquito traps have been set in both Charlestown and Warwick, and residents are encouraged to increase personal protection, such as eliminating mosquito breeding grounds and avoiding mosquito bites.
