First 2009 Equine West Nile Virus Case Confirmed in Kentucky
Laboratory results received Tuesday (Aug. 4) from Murray State University’s Breathitt Veterinary Center confirms the diagnosis of West Nile virus (WNV) having affected a yearling colt in Caldwell County, Kentucky. This is according to the Kentucky State Veterinarian’s office.

The yearling Quarter Horse colt is reported by the veterinarian as much improved since
onset of Illness on July 30. On that day he was presented to the attending veterinarian with observable rear limb ataxia.
The colt is reported to have received its’ initial West Nile virus inoculation on April 13, but a second inoculation was not administered untl July 13
