Racing leaders who convened last December in Tucson for the industry’s first-ever Racehorse Medication Summit will hold a second meeting on Wed., May 1 at the Executive Inn in Louisville, Ky.
Discussion will focus on the implementation of the group’s recommendations on medication, testing, security, and enforcement that were developed in December. Key areas of agreement include the need for uniformity in policies in all racing jurisdictions, the creation of a national advisory body to address the development of medication policies and practices, and the establishment of a broad-based funding mechanism to support these initiatives.
Participating in the meeting will be representatives of 15 national Thoroughbred, Standardbred, and Quarter Horse organizations–representing trainers, owners, veterinarians, racing commissions, regulatory bodies, and racetracks–as well as other key industry stakeholders to ensure a broad spectrum of thought and perspective is considered.
The meeting is open to invited participants only. For more information about the May 1 session, contact Dr. Scot Waterman, executive director of the NTRA Racing Integrity and Drug Testing Task Force, at 859/422-2675
