Awesome Act, who finished 19th in the May 1 Kentucky Derby Presented By Yum! Brands at Churchill Downs, is lame and will be getting some time off from training and competition, the Daily Racing Form reported May 4.

Tom Ludt, president of Vinery, told the publication the 3-year-old Awesome Again colt soon would undergo a nuclear scintigraphy scan at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington. Ludt said Awesome Act had "no obvious injury," but could possibly just be body sore or have bone bruises.

Vinery Stables races Awesome Act in partnership with Susan Roy. The colt won the Gotham Stakes and finished third in the Wood Memorial Stakes while being trained by Jeremy Noseda.

When Awesome Act returns to the racetrack, he will be trained by Steve Asmussen, Ludt told the Form. The colt will rest and recuperate at the Vinery near Lexington
