This Memorial Day, Old Friends will pay tribute to some special Thoroughbred champions.
On May 31, Old Friends, the Thoroughbred retirement facility in Georgetown, Ky., will have a commemorative service for eight retirees that have passed away in the last year.

Honored will be Calder Race Course Hall of Famer Flying Pigeon, multiple grade I winner Ruhlmann, Argentine-bred Gold Spring, J. J. Gittes' Invigorate, Old Friends foundation mare Narrow Escape, Arkansas Derby winner Proper Reality, grade III winner Stage Colony, and Beulah Park hero Appygolucky.

Keeneland bugler Bucky Sallee will perform the final "Call to Post."

"It's an honor to pay tribute to these great athletes," said Michael Blowen, Old Friends founder and president. "Old Friends is an assisted living facility, and we specialize in elder care. The only down side of the job is when they die. But we try to treat them with the dignity they deserve, both in life and in death
