The U.S. Department of Interior’s Bureau of Land Management will be holding an on-line Wild Horse and Burro Internet adoption June 28-July 19. Your family can adopt a horse or burro with just a click of your computer’s mouse. There will be 44 healthy, trainable animals available for on-line adoption. These animals are known for their hardiness, soundness and intelligence, and have excelled in a variety of disciplines, from endurance and trail riding to reining, western pleasure, jumping, and carriage driving. Once gentled, these wild horses and burros are great companions.

The animals are currently being held at facilities in Wyoming and Colorado. The on-line photo gallery includes five saddle broke, six halter broke, eight mares with foals, seven studs, five mares, and five jack burros, in a variety of colors.

To see these animals, log on to: https://www.adoptahorse.blm.gov. There is also a listing of the requirements necessary to become an adopter. Application forms will be available on the Internet June 28-July 12. After review and approval you will be e-mailed a UserID and your password will be activated. Applicants are required to submit a $125 deposit. Bids will be accepted July 5-19, and the current high-bid amount and User ID will be displayed in real time. High bidders will be notified no later than 4:00 p.m. July 20.

Before being offered for adoption, each animal is vaccinated, blood tested, and dewormed by a qualified veterinarian. Adopters have the option of picking up their animals from centers in Wyoming, Colorado, or Cross Plains, Tennessee. Upon arriving at the centers, adopters must fill out remaining paperwork and pay the balance of the adoption bid
