The horse at the center of a high-profile animal cruelty case just before Mardi Gras is ready to find a new home. Meanwhile, the animal’s owner is temporarily banned from owning a horse in Orleans Parish, Louisiana.

On Feb. 2 an onlooker shot a video during the Krewe of Oshun parade, an event held in advance of Mardi Gras, showing a rider hitting and kicking a young horse after the animal apparently became fearful and refused to move forward. The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (LASPCA) seized the horse.

The horse’s rider Darrell Tillery pleaded guilty in connection with the incident and was fined $500 and ordered to pay the LASPCA $1,200 for the horse’s care. He was also prohibited from owning a horse in Orleans Parish for six months.
