Oklahoma Police Probe Horse-Dragging Incident

Shawnee, Oklahoma, authorities say a horse found dead on a highway was dragged, allegedly while alive, for about five miles.

Shawnee, Oklahoma, authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the apparent dragging death of a horse there.

Corporal Vivian Lozano, of the Shawnee Police Department, said that on March 25, deputies answered a call about a trail of blood on a five-mile section of highway toward the town of Dale, Oklahoma, that led to the remains of a dead horse. Allegedly the horse had been alive when dragged to its final resting place, she said.

What kind of vehicle was used and whether the dragging was intentional or the result of an accident or vehicle crash of some kind remains unknown, Lozano said.

“The investigation is still ongoing, but we do have a few leads now,” she said
