ATHENS, Greece – Aug. 12, 2004 – The NBC Olympics Viewing Marathon, a Guinness World Record attempt for TV watching, has been temporarily postponed due to a state of emergency having been declared in the State of Florida because of Hurricane Charley and Tropical Storm Bonnie.  The contest, previously scheduled to begin with NBC’s Athens Olympic Opening Ceremony coverage Friday at 8 p.m. ET/PT, is now rescheduled to begin with NBC’s primetime Olympic programming no sooner than Sunday at 7 p.m. ET/PT.  The postponement was announced today by Dick Ebersol, Chairman, NBC Universal, Sports & Olympics.


“We want to be extra careful not to put any of the people involved in our contest in peril,” said Ebersol.  “All the attention in Florida should be on the state of emergency.  We’ll push the contest back until it’s safe
