EHM in Arizona: Maricopa County Yearling Tests Positive

A yearling filly from Maricopa County has been diagnosed with equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy (EHM), the neurologic form of equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1).
The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) reported Oct. 24 that the Arizona State Veterinarian confirmed the case Oct. 19.
“Another yearling on the property had been to an event three weeks prior and was showing neurologic signs, but at this time has tested negative for EHV,” the EDCC said. “The facility in Maricopa County was placed under quarantine for EHM. A hold order was placed on the facility on Oct. 20
