Two Oregon women accused of maltreating more than 80 horses will serve jail time and perform community service in connection with the case.

Earlier this year, law enforcement authorities removed 83 horses from a Deschutes County farm. All of the horses which were mostly Arabians, were in various stages of severe hoof neglect. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Department arrested horses’ owner, Linda B. Stream, and their caretaker, Christina J. Hart, and charged each with animal neglect. Both women pleaded no contest to the charges.

On Oct. 30, Stream and Hart were each sentenced to each serve 30 days in jail and perform 200 hours of community service, said Jessica Chandler, a representative for Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel.
