Ann Dwyer, DVM, of Scottsville, N.Y., has been chosen as the May honoree of the American Association of Equine Practitioners’ (AAEP) My Vet Matters Contest. Dwyer, nominated by horse owner Maureen Kuchta, has practiced at the Genesee Valley Equine Center for over 20 years. She is a graduate of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been an AAEP member since 1984.

Dwyer played a vital role in saving the lives of two of Kuchta’s horses. In her nomination, Kuchta described the two cases in which Dwyer helped quickly diagnose and treat the horses’ medical problems and enable them to live long and healthy lives.

Dwyer also demonstrates a strong commitment to education in her community. Every year her clinic offers a free educational program where hundreds of horse owners come to hear experts talk about a wide range of subjects. In addition, when making farm calls she frequently takes along interns or those interested in becoming a veterinarian.

Both Dwyer and Kuchta received a prize package featuring horse care items and apparel from the AAEP’s Educational Partners. They also are eligible for the grand prize, which is two tickets, airfare, and room accommodations for the 2005 Kentucky Derby. The winning entry is available in its entirety on the AAEP’s myHorseMatters.com web site. The contest continues monthly through October 2004
