Dr. Warwick A. Arden, professor and head of the Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine at the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine, has been named the new dean of North Carolina State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Arden will begin his new job in August 1. NC State Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor James L. Oblinger announced their recommendation of Arden to the post, pending approval by the university’s Board of Trustees, the University of North Carolina (UNC) Board of Governors and UNC President Molly Corbett Broad.

Oblinger, in welcoming the new dean, said, “Warwick Arden is a worthy successor to Oscar Fletcher, and will continue the College of Veterinary Medicine’s rise to national prominence for the highest standards of professional education, innovative research and peerless animal care. Our faculty, staff and students welcome him to the NC State community.”

“I am delighted to have been selected as the third dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at North Carolina State University,” Arden said. “Although one of the youngest veterinary colleges in North America, under the leadership of Deans Terrence M. Curtin and Oscar Fletcher and with the effort of extraordinary faculty and staff, the school has already risen to national and international eminence. There is clearly a strong commitment from the leadership of North Carolina State University and the people of North Carolina to animal health and welfare, and to outstanding tertiary education, research and public engagement. I truly believe the college has the ability to become a national model of excellence in veterinary medical education, and to continue to make major contributions to animal and human health and well-being
