The funding of $400,000 for the Secretary of Agriculture to regulate the commercial transportation of equine to slaughter facilities has been included in the 1998 Fiscal Year Agriculture Appropriations Bill.


The Conference bill includes the money as a part of the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service’s Animal Health Monitoring and Surveillance program.


Currently, the American Horse Council is preparing to work with APHIS to develop regulations that will meet the goals of the AHC, fair and reasonable regulations to protect the welfare of the horse
