Warwick M. Bayly, BVSc, MS, PhD, Dipl. ACVIM, is a 1975 graduate of Melbourne University in Australia. From 1977-79, he worked at The Ohio State University on his Masters thesis. In 1999, Bayly earned his Faculte de Medecine Veterinaire at the University of Liege’s Department of Physiology. Bayly has been on the Board of Directors of the Comparative Respiratory Society, and was president from 1998-99. He currently is president of the World Equine Veterinary Association (WEVA). Bayly has been treasurer of the International Organizing Committee of the International Conference on Equine Exercise Physiology (ICEEP) since 1998. He has been on the Research Committee of the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) since 1998.

Bayly is the Interim Dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University, and is a professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. He holds the title of McEachern Distinguished Professor in Equine Medicine. His primary clinical interests are medical conditions of horses, particularly respiratory, central nervous, and urinary tract diseases, and exercise-associated medical problems.

Joseph J. Bertone, DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVIM, is an Adjunct Professor at Michigan State University and an Equine Internist and Regulatory Consultant for Idaho Equine Hospital. He received his DVM from Cornell University in 1983, and his Masters from Colorado State. Bertone received his internal medicine board certification in 1988.

Bertone completed a year-long Necropsy and Pathology internship while working for his DVM, followed by a Large Animal Clinical internship. He worked for a year as a veterinarian at a large animal practice in New York before his residency in Large Animal Medicine at Colorado State from 1984-87. Bertone served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Louisiana State before working as Assistant Professor of Equine Medicine and Surgery at The Ohio State University from 1989-94. Bertone then moved to Maryland for a four-year stint as an Equine Internist in a practice, while jointly serving as a Veterinary Medical Officer for the Food and Drug Administration Center for Veterinary Medicine.

Bertone editorially advises several top veterinary journals, and his research and clinical interests primarily are in the areas of nutrition and internal medicine
