The Horse is proud to welcome two new Editorial Advisory Board members to our fold. These professionals from around the world offer their counsel and advice to our publication in order to ensure we have the most accurate, timely contents possible, and to keep us up-to-date on their specialties of research and equine medicine.


Leo Jeffcott, BVetMed, PhD, FRCVS, DVSc, MA, DSc is Dean of the vet school at Cambridge University in England. He received his BVetMed with Distinction in Pathology and Surgery from the University of London, followed by his PhD there in 1972. He earned his FRCVS at the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, London, his DVSc at the University of Melbourne, and his MA at the University of Cambridge. This year he received his DSc (honoris causa) from the Swedish University of Agricultural Science.


Jeffcott earned numerous Executive and Honorary Appointments along the road to attain his current position. Jeffcott is a Bureau member of the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) and Chairman of the FEI Veterinary Committee. He has been a veterinary official for the FEI for 23 years, and has officiated at the last four Olympics and all three World Equestrian Games. Jeffcott organized the international research program, attracting funding to investigate the effect of hot and humid conditions on the equine athlete for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta. That research alone resulted in 40 scientific papers in peer reviewed journals.


Jeffcott currently lectures in Equine Medicine, teaches Equine Surgery courses, and does practical teaching in the Large Animal Hospital at Cambridge. He supervises post-graduate students, and has taught more than 30 short courses/workshops throughout the world for continuing professional development. In addition, he serves as an Editorial Advisory Board member for several peer-reviewed veterinary journals
