Accused Florida Slaughter Farm Owner Convicted
A Florida man accused of operating an illegal slaughter farm in Palm Beach County has been found guilty of cruelty to animals.
In October 2015, personnel from the Miami, Florida-based Animal Recovery Mission (ARM), along with law enforcement officers from the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Department and other agencies, raided three illegal slaughter farms. A total of 750 animals including horses, goats, cattle, pigs, dogs, cats, and birds were rescued during the raids at the G.A. Paso Fino Farm and Medina Farm, both in West Palm Beach, and at Rancho Garcia in Loxahatchee.
Eight men were arrested in connection with the raids including Jorge Garcia, owner of the Garcia Farms. Margo Ryan, ARM spokeswoman, said Garcia was subsequently charged with two counts of causing cruel death to animals and two counts of torment, deprivation, mutilation, or killing of animals. All the charges are connected to the slaughter of goats on the Rancho Garcia property, she said.
On March 30 following a trial at the Palm Beach County courthouse Garcia was found guilty of all four charges, Ryan said
