Horse farms are sites of pleasure, beauty, and activity. Unfortunately, however, they’re also home to many accidents—some of them critical.

To help prevent such accidents, Scandinavian researchers have teamed up with a Finnish national equine association to create a free interactive online stable management tool with a special safety section. Their goal is to keep both horses and humans as safe from danger as possible.

“This web tool has been constructed and designed by researchers alongside horse stable managers and horse owners, who are mainly expected to use the tool, but also advisors and educators concerning the horse-related activities may find it useful, because it presents the context and the content of safety management in horse stable activities,” said Jarkko Leppälä, PhD, a research scientist at the Natural Resources Institute Finland, in Helsinki.

“Establishing the context is the first task of risk management in any site or any activity by the risk management standard,” he said
