Clinicians at the Louisiana State University (LSU) Veterinary Teaching Hospital, in Baton Rouge, are evaluating a new investigational drug for the treatment of gastric ulcers in horses. Horses that meet the inclusion criteria will have the opportunity to be enrolled in the study.
Those criteria include:
- Horses must be manageable and cooperative with study procedures;
- Horses must be at least 1 year of age on Study Day 1;
- Horses must be nonpregnant, nonlactating, and nonbreeding; and
- Horses must have gastric ulcers present on the Day 1 endoscopic assessment.
The study will last four to six weeks.
The study will cover the cost of the farm call, examination fees, sedation, endoscopy, blood work (a complete blood count and biochemistry panel), the investigational drug (KB014) or omeprazole (GastroGard), and recheck evaluations. Owners are responsible for all other costs incurred, including board at the farm or other fees not part of the study
