The Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) has reported that a quarantine put in place after seven Texas horses tested positive for equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) has been partially released.

In late May, the seven horses residing at one Cooke County breeding facility tested positive for neurologic EHV-1. The EDCC reported in a June 10 statement that all seven horses were removed from their barn and placed in an isolated area following the positive diagnosis.

“Since isolating the EHV-1-positive horses, all horses on the facility have tested negative on nasal swabs 14 days after the affected horses were removed from the barn,” the EDCC statement said. “Due to no additional horses showing any clinical signs or elevated temperatures, all barns on the facility have been released and cleared for breeding activities, except for the (isolation) barn housing the seven infected horses.”

That barn, the statement said, will remain under quarantine until all the affected horses are negative on nasal swabs
