Lily, the 20-year-old Appaloosa/Arabian cross mare who was reportedly shot with a paintball gun and abandoned at a New Holland, Pennsylvania, horse action has died.

Earlier this year rescuers from the Omega Horse Rescue, in Airville, Pennsylvania, brought Lily to the New Bolton Center, in Kennett Square, for assessment and treatment after she was found abandoned and covered in paint. Veterinarians determined the mare was underweight, blind in one eye, and suffering from an ulcer in the other eye. Lily subsequently underwent surgery to remove the blind eye.

Following rehabilitation, Lily and her pasture mate Anita, also an elderly mare, were adopted by comedian and former host of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart and his wife Tracey.

On June 20, a post on The Daily Squeal, the social networking webpage for the Stewarts’ rescue, announced that Lily had died due to injuries sustained in a fall
