Hay and forage are an important component of a horse’s diet, but purchasing hay can be challenging at times. Many factors, including weather conditions and geographic location, contribute to hay supply and demand and can cause headaches for horse owners seeking to add to their hay stores.
In last week’s online poll, we asked our readers how frequently they buy hay for their horses. More than 1,100 people responded and we’ve tallied the results!
Of the 1,102 respondents, 397 (36%) said they buy hay once a year for their horses. Some 126 individuals (11%) said they buy hay every six months, and 112 (10%) indicated they buy hay every two months. Another 126 individuals (11%) buy hay on a monthly basis, 79 people (7%) reported buying hay biweekly, and only 56 respondents (5%) bought hay weekly. Sixty respondents (5%) said they buy hay on a frequency not mentioned, and the remaining146 individuals (13%) do not buy hay for their horse.
