EHM Quarantine Lifted From California Premises

The quarantine resulted after one horse, a 12-year-old Arabian mare, developed clinical signs on Oct. 16 and was confirmed positive for the neurologic form of EHV-1, also known as equine herpesvirus myeloencephalopathy (EHM).
On Oct. 18, CDFA quarantined 64 exposed horses on the Arabian mare’s premises and implemented enhanced biosecurity protocols, including twice-daily temperature monitoring.
CDFA confirmed a 9-year-old gelding, which was among the exposed horses and subsequently developed neurologic signs, as positive for EHV-1 on Oct. 19. The gelding was isolated and monitored off-site and enhanced biosecurity measures implemented
