A Pennsylvania man is facing animal cruelty charges for allegedly striking a horse overburdened by the wagon load the animal was pulling.

A written statement from the Ephrata, Pennsylvania Police Department, deputies responded to a call on Aug. 2 about a man repeatedly beating a wagon horse that was lying alongside a roadway. On the scene, police determined that Marvin M. Sensenig had allegedly unreasonably struck a horse overburdened by the heavy load in the wagon the animal was pulling. The horse was later euthanized, the statement said.

On Aug. 5, Sensenig was arrested and charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

He was not available for comment
