New Jersey, South Carolina Confirm New Equine EEE Cases

New Jersey has reported its first case of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) in a horse for 2016, while South Carolina has confirmed two additional equine EEE cases, the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) has reported.
In New Jersey, an 8-year-old mare from Morris County is the state’s first confirmed equine EEE case of the year. The EDCC reported that the mare was unvaccinated and has been euthanized.
Meanwhile, two additional South Carolina horses have brought that state’s EEE case count to 14.
“The first case was an unvaccinated 10-year-old Paint from Chesterfield County,” the EDCC said. “The horse did not survive. This is the first confirmed case in Chesterfield County this year
