Florida law enforcement authorities hope the offer of a cash reward will help them identify whoever fatally shot a horse in a pasture near Tallahassee.

Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy and Livestock Officer Bill Bullock said an owner reported find one of his horses dead on Aug. 26. The horse was near a fence and had sustained a single gunshot wound, Bullock said. Other horses also located in the pasture were unhurt, he said.

“We do not think this was a hunting accident because it is out of season,” Bullock said. “Also, we don’t think the shooting was deliberate.”

The incident remains under investigation
