Animal health officials in Arizona, Michigan, and West Virginia have reported new cases of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Potomac horse fever (PHF), and West Nile virus.

Arizona—On Sept. 21 the Equine Disease Communication Center (EDCC) said a horse in Cochise County tested positive for WNV, the first case in Arizona for 2016.

“The affected horse is a 4-year old Quarter Horse gelding with no history of vaccination for WNV,” the EDCC said. “The horse exhibited advancing medical signs and was euthanized.”

Michigan—The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) reported Sept. 20 that two equine EEE cases had been confirmed in less than a week
