Information gleaned from an unrelated investigation led Louisiana law enforcement authorities to a Bossier Parish man accused of stealing at least three racehorses.

Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry (LDAF) Commissioner Mike Strain DVM, said that during an investigation into an unrelated horse case, law enforcement authorities learned that in April a horse was reported stolen from Harrah’s Louisiana Downs Casino and Racetrack in Bossier City. The Louisiana State Police Gaming Unit later recovered that horse at Delta Downs in Vinton, Louisiana, Strain said.

After a joint investigation by Bossier City Police, the Louisiana State Police, and the Louisiana Livestock Brand Commission, Jonas Gibson was arrested on Oct. 25 and charged with forgery in connection with Jockey Club registration papers and the theft and sale of a horse last April.

Seven horses currently in Gibson’s possession are being boarded at an equine rescue facility while authorities determine whether the animals were stolen and, if they were, return them to their rightful owners
